Principal Judge Monitors High Court Criminal Session at Kajjansi, Commends Innovation in Case Management

ThePrincipal Judge, Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, this morning conducted amonitoring visit to the ongoing High Court criminal session at Kajjansi, aspart of her supervisory mandate to assess the administration of justice.

Uponarrival, she was received by the presiding judge, Justice Karoli LwangaSsemogerere, whom she commended for his innovative and proactive approach tocase management. She particularly applauded his pre-trial visits to prisons andthe organisation of pre-trial meetings with key stakeholders, noting that theseinitiatives continue to enhance efficiency in the handling and disposal ofcases.

ThePrincipal Judge also appreciated the Kajjansi Chief Magistrate's Court forproviding a conducive environment that supports the effective delivery ofjustice during the session.

Inhis briefing, Justice Ssemogerere reported that the session is progressingwell, with deliberate efforts being made to promote Alternative DisputeResolution (ADR) and improve witness handling, both of which are critical inensuring timely disposal of cases.

TheAssistant Registrar of Entebbe High Court, HW Butanula Rashida, informed thePrincipal Judge that a total of 48 cases were cause-listed for the session, ofwhich 12 have so far been disposed of.

Meanwhile,the Chief Magistrate, HW Karungi Doreen Olga, noted that Kajjansi Magistrates'Court began the day with a caseload of 497 cases, including a backlog of 35.She highlighted key operational challenges affecting service delivery,including the lack of a station vehicle and insufficient clerical staff.

Thevisit was also attended by Magistrates Grade I from Kajjansi.
